High School 3rd straight State Championship one at 5A
and two at the 4A level
Trina
Painter ladies coach for Flagstaff HS she began coaching
at FHS in 2003 on the last win for the fab 5... then,
again in 2004 after 5 of my varsity kids graduated.
We then took, 2nd from 2005-06-07... with the same core
group of girls.. we continued to stay focused and kept
the dream alive.. and finally this year.. we won the
title again for the current seniors and the teams in the
past! It was a very emotional moment for all of us, as
we had worked so hard for 4 years and always ended up
the bridesmaid and never the bride, so when it finally
happened it opened the flood gates of joy in our
hearts.. Each year we were close and if one or two
things had gone our way, we would have won.. but we
learned how to deal with victory and defeat with
humility and graciousness.. I told the girls that they
may have taken away our title, but they can never take
away our dignity.. we held our heads high and continued
to pursue the state championship.. Keeping our eye on
the prize the whole time.. each day, each workout..
This was a really special win as well as it was a total
team effort.. every girl gave their best effort on that
day and although we no one finish in the top 10 as an
individual.. the top 5, that score, were only 49 seconds
apart.. that's amazing!
We also watched Facing the Giants two nights before the
state meet to help us keep things in perspective.
