Bears Host Matadors
The season is nearing an end.
My how things have changed. Last year
the boys from Yuma were already looking
to next season and PC was on the verge
of their biggest season in decades.
Like a kids balloon from the fair the
Bears find themselves looking into the
sky wondering where their shiny new
balloon***
went. Like that kid, the Bears are ready
to hit someone, with a quivering lip and
clenched fists they are looking for a
place to vent.
Hello, here come the Matadors and they
have a shiny new balloon***.
Hmmmm.. In honor of this being our Game
of the Week and it being PC's
Homecoming, I have a video, one that
either team can see both humor and
purpose in. (Actually my wife found it,
married 29 years and she is still funny)
PC v AWC GOW Video
This game will be at Phoenix College at
15th Ave and Thomas at 1:30. IT will be
a great game. Make it a Football after
noon and see some future D1 and NFL
stars. Plus AWC needs this win to set up
their WSFL Title match next week in Yuma
vs Snow.
*** = Shot at
League, Conference and National Title.
At 7pm at
Scottsdale you can watch the Artichokes
take on the EAC Monsters. Eastern is
looking for a dominating win to keep
their bowl options high. SCC, depends on
which team shows up, could be a great
day for the Chokes or, well, not so
much.
The third game in the Valley features
the tuff Broncos from New Mexico as they
try to kick the feathers off the Mesa
T-Birds.
Glendale, they get to travel to Tucson
to play the Pima Aztecs. GCC is still in
Bowl mode and needs the win. Pima, close
all year, but a win may not matter to
school officials. The G-Men want this
win to focus them for their game next
week vs SCC for the VSB game rights.
Tune in, same
bat time, same bat channel this Saturday
night on ASPN Radio KXXT 1010 AM 8-Mid
or listen online.

Chokes in Control for Valley of Sun Bowl
What a season! SCC came into the season
with something to prove after an injury plagued
2008. Soon they felt as if the light at the end
of the tunnel was a train and they were stuck
dead on the tracks. Then, boom the rival game
with Phoenix and now they can win the Valley and
secure the Bowl game.
All they need to do is stop Mesa this week and
Glendale in their final game. It's just that
easy.
The rest of the WSFL is now in pursuit of Snow
and waiting to see if Western can run the table.
All they have to do is beat Pima, Glendale,
Phoenix and Snow. It's just that easy.
NMMI pushed it's way to a good spot in the poll,
Phoenix, now a memory and Eastern is fighting to
not be a top team that no one can remember.
What a season! Poor, poor Pima. They only break
they can catch is thru injuries. Now the rumor
is Pima after giving the half million dollar
Nike turf Storm filed up to the elements
and vandals. Well, looks like Aztec Football may
be given up for good as the school tries to cut
expenses. Just whispers in the wind.

Valley of Sun Bowl ? Whom Shall it Be?
VSB, this game will be hosted by the
best team within the WSFL and the ACCAC among
the Metro Phoenix area teams. Mesa, Glendale,
Scottsdale and Phoenix. The rest in Arizona,
Eastern, Pima and Western can just pound sand.
NMMI and Snow, well, get your own bowl.
So we begin, officially the VSB Watch. This is
going to be fun because all four teams have to
play at least two more games to earn a spot.
Phoenix has played two and is 1-1. Glendale is
1-0, Mesa is 0-1 and Scottsdale is 0-0 and can
host the VSB game. Mesa, it does not look like
they are going to ?Find a Way? at least not this
season. The Thunderbirds and their shiny new
logo will get a post season pass.
This is a big VSB weekend with Scottsdale
playing at Phoenix and Mesa at Glendale. Should
Glendale beat Mesa and then Scottsdale on the
last Saturday of the season, the Gaucho will
host yet another VSB. To no one?s surprise. If
you look back, one thing I pointed out was the
value of the history of Gaucho football. Coach
Mickey Bell is doing what the G-Men have always
done, ?Yeah, it?s like that.?
Matadors In Control
AWC travels to Roswell to play a tuff New Mexico
Military Broncos team. A lot of strange things
are known or suspected to have happened in
Roswell. Then Western will host Pima. Followed
by Glendale, and a trip to Phoenix. AWC will
host the visiting Snow Badgers to close out the
regular season. A tuff finish for a hard
schedule indeed. The final vs. Snow will be the
WSFL title game, provided the Matadors can get
to this game unbeaten.
Earlier in the year AWC beat Snow on top of the
mountain 35-17. The Badgers have had one eye on
their weekly foe and one eye on the Matadors
ever since. The entire season for both teams IS
the final game of the year. Nothing is as
important as this one game. Sure they both play
each week and prepare to win, mostly, except the
couple of times they lost focus and nearly lost.
Snow, the rest of their schedule looks like
this. Host a tuff, ticked off EAC Monster team.
Then the PC Bears head up the mountain. Followed
by another home game with Scottsdale. Then a BYE
week to run full speed scout featuring the
Matadors and sharpen their swords, patch up
their shields before the hunt. Then they travel
to Yuma to slay the beast that ruined their
season. Trust me, Snow will be hoping the
Phoenix College Bears push AWC into long, hard
fought, last man standing game at PC. Yes, the
Badgers will be at that game in force and why
not, they have a large alumni base in Arizona.
As for the title of this piece? That is simple,
only Western can prevent Western from being the
WSFL Champs and possibly securing a National
Title Game.

Bears-Gauchos Pure HATE
There are rival games at every
level. But the Phoenix College Bears and
the Glendale Gauchos take it one step
further. No, not like the former SCC v
MCC games when players and coaches on
the field and in the press box would get
in each others faces or stick chairs
thru walls. That stuff is so Jr. High.
No if a Gaucho even talks about taking
any job at PC, well, as they say, "You
are dead to me."
I am not making this up. Saw it for
myself. Gone are the days of small
crowds at Bear games at home and on the
road. Bear Roar is PC Football today.
Glendale will need every play to be
perfect, every hit to be a defining
blow. Expect a hard hitting, angry game
as the Gauchos try to find their heart.
The Bears, this game puts them in
control of their VSB destiny. It is a
must win.
Glendale, for them it is more like a
swimmers time trial. The opponent does
not matter and they can't afford to be
drawn into a head game rivalry.
They already hate themselves and who
they are this season.
One word of advice for the Bears. After
the game, win or lose don't exit by the
GCC locker room, use the South gate.
Take your fans with you. The only
national news you need to make is on the
field.
Polls
Everyone knows that polls really don't
mean anything. All is settled in the
end. But, man it is fun to watch your
favorite team climb that chart. So here
are this weeks changes.
Last first, the biggest jump the, PC
Bears getting a place at the table
again, they are now at 19. Western is
now at 5 up from 7 and Snow is a steady
climber up from 9 to 7. Eastern took a
tumble from 5 to 12. JUCO and it's
national title game may be settled when
AWC faces both PC and Snow in their last
two weeks. Last week no top four team
lost and that has to happen for Snow, PC
or Western to keep climbing. SCC could
be a spoiler for a few.

Game of the Week
AWC Western 27 EAC
2
Here Comes the BOOM:
The chase is on and both
undefeated teams the #5 Monsters in
Thatcher and #7 Matadors in Yuma believe
this is their year. On Saturday they
collide in SE-AZ. Expect a beat down
game. These two teams are natural
enemies and with two recent AWC HC's on
the EAC sideline, contempt will be
familiar. This is COLLEGE football,
forget about the Junior. (one of the top
PAC-10 RB's is where? That's right, at
the UofA, Grigsby.) To get you warmed
up, we offer some music and moving
pictures.
BOOM Video, see it, hear it, feel it!
Polls
Like a good prune juice the polls are a
runnin' well. Flowing up Eastern
is now #5, Western is
#7, hence the BOOM. Snow,
well, what did you expect from a JUCO
team that is second only to D1 teams for
alumni going to the NFL. They are at #9.
Phoenix has found it's
roar and is getting votes again. Big
news is Coach Lynn and the boys from
Area 51 moving up and getting votes at
NMMI New Mexico
Military in Roswell
